Designing the building
Post-frame barn · part 2 of 7 · 1:12
The building model in 3D, drawings, materials, design loads and the permit set.
What the narrator says
- Part two: designing the building.
- Design starts the building model from the job record and the interview: the posts, trusses, girts and purlins, the doors and the windows.
- You can turn it, walk through it, and watch it go up in the same order the schedule builds it. Owners love this part.
- The same model draws the plan and the elevations, with every door, window and piece of equipment tagged.
- And it counts the materials: the bill of materials and the cut list, from the concrete down to the bags of screws.
- Design loads are worked out from the published tables, with the formula and the reference beside every number. Snow load and wind speed come from the township; until they're entered, Keystone says so instead of guessing.
- Changes are made in the model editor. Each change becomes a new version for review, so you always know which drawing a price came from.
- When the model is approved, the permit set draws itself: the cover sheet with the code notes, the floor plan, the elevations, and the framing sheets, ready to print.
- Next, we price it and sell it.
