The money
Post-frame barn · part 6 of 7 · 1:12
Progress billing, job cost, the books, banking, payroll and the cash forecast.
What the narrator says
- Part six: the money, so you always know what a job is really making.
- Progress bills are filled in from what the crew last recorded as complete. Each line shows what's been billed already and what's left, and signed change orders are added on their own lines.
- The books are built around jobs. Every cost lands on a job and a cost code, so work in progress shows which jobs are ahead of their billing and which are behind.
- Profit by job, budget against actual, accounts payable and receivable, the balance sheet: the reports your accountant asks for are a click away.
- Import the bank statement and Keystone matches the lines to the bills and deposits already in the books, then you reconcile the month.
- Approved crew hours become payroll. Federal and Pennsylvania withholding come from this year's published tables, and local tax comes from the state's register for where each person lives and works.
- The cash forecast looks ahead at what is owed to you and what you owe, week by week, so payroll is never a surprise.
- Last, handing over the keys.
